EV Charging Arms Race Sparks 800-V Connector Boom
Brazil’s ANP set a 2026 target of 18,000 fast chargers. Every charger above 150 kW now needs 800-V connectors. Amphenol opened a 5 million-unit plant in Campinas in July 2025. The line ships CCS2 and NACS heads to 42 local OEMs. Mexican supplier Molex signed a deal with VW Puebla in August 2025 for 800-V harnesses. Early shipments cover 120,000 ID.4 units. Chile’s energy agency reports 94% of new chargers ordered in 2025 use 800-V architecture. Sales of high-voltage connectors rose 31% quarter on quarter.
ADAS Mandate Drives 48-V Sensor Harness Demand
Argentina’s Ministry of Transport requires Level-2 ADAS on new cars from January 2026. TE Connectivity launched a 48-V sensor harness kit in Buenos Aires in July 2025. The kit bundles 12 cameras and 5 radar links. It cut wiring weight by 22%. Ford Brazil installed the harness on the new Ranger in August 2025. The ADAS option take-rate jumped to 65%. Colombia’s INCOMEX data show that 48-V connector imports rose 28% in H1 2025.
Over-the-Air Updates Push Sealed IP69K Connectors
Brazil’s CONTRAN mandates OTA firmware updates for connected cars by 2027. JAE introduced sealed IP69K connectors in São Paulo in June 2025. The units survive high-pressure wash and dust. OEMs report zero warranty claims after 1 million test cycles. BYD Brazil adopted the connector for Shark pickup production in August 2025. IP69K connector orders rose 40% in July 2025 versus June.
